Statement & Bio

Alice Thompson observes and transforms light through printmaking, drawing, and cut paper installations.

Alice is a Philadelphia-based visual artist. She holds a B.F.A. from Binghamton University (2004) and an M.F.A. from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (2006) with concentrations in drawing and printmaking. Her creative process is grounded in refined observational drawing skills and an extensive knowledge of historical and contemporary printmaking practices. Alice creates works on paper and installations which incorporate natural and electric light by layering translucent cut paper on windows or in portable light boxes. She seeks opportunities to incorporate her experiments in cut paper and shadow in staged performances.
