Statement & Bio

Artist Alice Thompson observes and transforms light through printmaking, drawing, and cut paper installations.

Alice is a Philadelphia-based visual artist. She was born in Carlisle, PA, and raised in the Southern Tier of New York State. She holds a B.F.A. from Binghamton University (2004) and an M.F.A. from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (2006) with a concentration in drawing and printmaking. Her creative process is grounded in refined observational drawing skills and an extensive knowledge of historical and contemporary printmaking practices. Alice creates evocative works on paper and installations which incorporate natural and electric light by layering translucent cut paper on windows or in portable light boxes. She appreciates all genres of music and plays the piano, clarinet, and tenor saxophone as an inspirational counterpoint to her work in visual art.
